Photograph depicts a group portrait of the B'nai B'rith Lions' Gate Lodge baseball team.
Original article in the Jewish Western Bulletin April 20, 1951:
The ball season is rolling around again and this is the time to remind all baseball enthusiasts that B'nai B'rith Lions' Gate Lodge will again sponsor a fastball team for the third successive season. Shown in the picture are most of the boys who carried the BB colors with credit and distinction last year and almost all of them will be back again on this year's team.
From left to right, standing, are: Moe Packer, George Blank, Bunny [Bernard] Lotzkar, Sol Ogroskin, Roy Cantor. Sitting, left to right: Harry Hammer, Claude Koven, Herby [Herb] Cowan, Ben Kurtz, Arny [Arnold] Nemetz. Arny won the award last year for the most valuable player on the team. Those missing from the picture are Bob Lubin, Al Barad and Barney Eisenstein.
This year the team will be competing in the Fairview League, top Senior B League in the city. Competition will be much keener than in the first two seasons but the boys are expected to give a good account of themselves both in sportsmanship and calibre of play.
The only member of last year's team who will definitely be missing this year is Sol Ogroskin who has left the city. Most of the others have been turning out to practices and it is hoped that the few holdouts will also be out soon.
George Blank, Harry Hammer and Bob Lubin shared the pitching duties last year and did a good job between them but the team can stand strengthening in this vital area particularly. All prospective players are welcome to turn out to practices and should contact Bill Wolfman at the "3 Vets" who is team manager, or Moe Packer, of Shaughnessy Cleaners, who is assistant manager.
The team will welcome a good cheering section to and all ball fans should practice up for the bench-warming season and get out of those soft chairs.
