Morris Saltzman

Oral history interview with Morris Saltzman who was born in Winnipeg, 1918. Morris's father brought the family to Vancouver because he was became a successful merchant, eventually owning two grocery stores; 1st in wholesale potato business; second on corner of Nelson and Bute St. Morris was involved in and or speaks of B'nai B'rith, Jewish Community Fund and Council, Zionist Organization, Community Fund and Council, Vancouver Lodge and St. John's Shaughnessy Men's Club.

Gertrude Weinrobe and Violet Franklin

Oral history interview with Gertrude Weinrobe and Violet Franklin (sisters). Their brother Nathan has the honour of being the first Jewish person buried in Mountain View Cemetery after catching Diphtheria on train into BC. Violet works for Imperial Oil and and Gertrude is a stenographer.

Ben Wosk

Oral history interview with Ben Wosk who was born in 1913 in a town near Odessa. He recalls how his Great-Grandfather Moshe served in the Czarist army for 25 years. Ben and the family emigrated to Canada after Ben, his father and many other Jews had been arrested on multiple occasions with no evidence.

Norman & Bernice Brown

Oral history interview with Norman Brown who arrived in Vancouver in 1907 and Bernice immigrated to Vancouver after marrying Norman in San Fransico in 1930. Norman attended Talmud Torah school when he was a child. Both were involved in a variety of Jewish community organizations. Bernice was president of both Federated Jewish Women and National Council of Jewish Women. Norman was president of the Canadian Jewish Council. He discusses memories of early life in Strathcona and Mount Pleasant. Interview ends with a discussion of photographs.
