Talks about growing up in Vancouver and the Jewish community here. Her father was a junk peddler when they first arrived. Talks about raising her family in Vancouver and her family's active relationship with the Schara Tzedeck synagogue. Speaks of the importance of the Jewish Community Centre in the life of the community when she was young, the support and confidence it generated amongst Betty and her friends.

Blossom Wine

Oral history interview with Blossom Wine who was born in Saskatchewan. Involved in Hadassah and active in active in B’nai Brith. After her husband passed away she became a travel agent and saw the development of Israel over many continuous years.

Booba Harowitz

Oral history interview with Booba Harowitz who was born in Odessa, Russia in 1917. Her family fled the Russian revolution to Canada in 1923. Talks about Haddassa meeting them when they arrived in Canada. Her father started as a peddler in Fraser Valley and Chilliwack area. She talks about her family’s relationship with the Judaism. Her daughter and two others were first in Vancouver to have Bat Mitzvah at Schara Tzedeck. Reflects on her memories of events in the early years of the Jewish community and people who were active and significant contributors to its development. Booba is a member of United Jewish Appeal.

David Freeman

Oral history interview with David Freeman who was born in Vancouver, 1913. He recalls the importance of B’nai B’rith's Anti-Defamation League in combating antisemitism in the first half of the century. He went to Law school, starting Freeman & Co. in 1935, which now numbers sixty associates. Has remained involved in the Jewish community with the Canadian Council of Christians & Jews, the Weitzman Institute and Young Judaea.

David Nemetz

Oral history interview with David Nemetz. David was born in Russia in the year 1894. He discusses his childhood in Russia prior to his immigration to Canada in 1912, when he arrived in Winnipeg. David describes his involvement in various Zionist groups in each city he lived in, such as the Young Zionist group and the Habonim Lodge in BC. His involvement in Canadian Zionist movements eventually lead to the establishment of Camp Hatikvah.
