John Gort

Oral history interview with John Gort who was born in Breslau, Germany. Escaped Gestapo while in school in Frankfurt in November 1939 due to local police. He went on to study in England but quit and than volunteered for the British Army. He worked in London, England; Northern Rhodesia and Vancouver in medical technician and psychiatric nursing. The interview also discusses John's study of German philosophers.

Joshua Checov

Oral history interview with Joshua Checov who was born in 1891 in a small village in Russia. He was the only member of his family to serve in the Russian army during the First World War. Mr. Checov met Czar Nicholas during his time in the army. Later when he emigrated to Canada he spent a great deal of effort working across numerous organizations; Anti-Defamation League, Histadrut, etc and was a active supporter of Zionism.

On the back of the image is written: "Just before we left on the Victory Loan Parade in 3 Rivers, marched like this for 3 1/2 hours but I didn't mind it although I was tired and hot. I should have turned around so you could see the packs on the shoulder."

Oral history interview with Manfred Carsh who was born in 1922 in Europe. Interview covers the business and family lives prior to and during the outbreak of WW2; details of Kristallnacht; effects on the family, forced out of their home, forced to sell the business for pennies on the dollar to Germans, as did other Jewish businesses.
