Oral Interview with Susy Naylor for the JMABC Artists Scribe. Interviewed by Helen Aqua. Susy was born in Brooklyn in 1943 and talks about her family history in the city and abroad, as well as her immigration to Canada as an adult. She talks about her education including two nursing degrees which led her to teach nursing upon moving to Winnipeg. Wanting to transition to counselling, Susy moved to Coquitlam and commuted to school in Washington which eventually enabled her to open a private practice. Susy describes her challenges doing art from home as a middle-aged mother and how her outlook on her artistic ability changed as she did more workshops and gained mentorship, albeit still experiencing impostor syndrome. Susy discusses how her paintings don’t truly have stories, but are ambiguous and she loves to hear the interpretations of the viewers. Susy also discusses how participating in a Leonard Cohen themed art show made her realize her difficulties visualizing imagery in her head when she had an idea, helping to clarify her artistic process. She talks about her involvement in galleries and art crawls, and teaching classes to others who question if they can be an artist.

Oral history interview with the Seidelman family who emigrated to Canada from Russia. Rachel Morris (nee Seidelman) and her brother Harry Seidelman describe being relatively isolated from the Jewish community as young people but they met more Jewish people in high school and became increasingly involved in community activities. Rachel's husband William Morris trained as doctor and had a private practice for a time. Rachel was involved with the Council of Jewish Women, served on the Vancouver Jewish Community Chest board. The CJW worked with the Red Cross during the Second World War.

Oral history interview with Muni Evers who was born in Winnipeg (nee Averbach) who was a Lab technician and pharmacist in army; entered politics, served as police commissioner and mayor; served on the Municipal Financing Authority Board, Pharmaceutical Association, Canadian Pharmaceutical Association and deputy of the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

Oral history interview with Max and Susie Dodek. Max was born 1900 in Winipeg and Susie was born 1910 in Winnipeg.

Oral history interview with Dr. Leonard Fratkin who was born in Brandon, Manitoba in 1917. He received his Medical degree in 1942 from the University of Alberta than joined the army and enrolled in the Canadian Officers Training Core, became a Medical Officer, assigned to surgical services. He arrived in England in May of 1944.

Oral History of Anne Goldbloom. Her father was from Poland, and her mother was from Russia, they meet in Liverpool. Her uncle, Jack Stark, was the first family member to come to Canada. He originally settled in Winnipeg but moved to Vancouver before Anne's family immigrated. Her father followed her uncle to Canada and they opened a store together. At 16 Anne got a job as a stenographer, a skill that she used working as Secretary for many Jewish community organizations. During WW2 she was in charge of the knitting group that was making items to send to the overseas soldiers. Most of the interview is about her work with the National Council of Jewish Women and their Baby Clinic. She talks a lot about the Jewish community that she grew up in Vancouver.
