Leopold and Pearl Levey

Oral history interview with Leopold - born in England,1903 - and Pearl Levey. Leo and Pearl moved to Trail from Calgary in 1936. Later, during the 1940's, Jewish engineers were employed locally to create of heavy water, as part of Canada's contribution to the Manhattan Project. Leo was involved in B.C. Hospitals' Associate Board, the Red Cross in Trail - awarded Red Cross medal of service for flood relief work, 1948.., the Jewish National Fund and Yom Kippur Appeal. Pearl was deeply involved in Hadassah.

Bessie Diamond

Oral history interview with Bessie Diamond who was born in London, England in 1899 but her family emigrated in 1905 to Canada. Bessie worked throughout the Jewish Community in Vancouver such as setting up the Well-Baby Clinic and during the Second World War worked with refugees. Bessie built the Joseph J. and Bessie Diamond Hospital in Israel to her late husband (1964).

Oral history interview with Harry Woolfe who was born in England to Russian parents. Harry's recounts his career in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, in construction and working for Paramount Pictures.

Dr. Jack Moscovich

Oral history interview with Dr. Jack Moscovich, who was born in England but grew up in Alberta. Jack's parents came from Romania where his father served as captain in the Romanian cavalry ca. 1892. Began practice in new clinic setup by Dr. Maurice Fox and Dr. Morris in 1934-35. Jack founded the VGH Outpatients' Department. Stationed in Farnham, England during the Second World War until 1943; than Vancouver unit #11 of Canadian General Hospital. Was director of VGH Outpatients Department and late in 1974 was asked by British Columbia's government to investigate welfare and medical situations. Jack's work directly led to the Medical Services Plan.

Harry Smith

Oral history interview with Harry Smith who was born in Russia in 1896. When the family emigrated to Canada in 1905, their family name was changed to Shumacher. Harry with his family (married in 1918) to Vancouver in 1932 for the education of his daughter. Was involved with Friends of Hebrew University.
