Dr. Leonard Fratkin

Oral history interview with Dr. Leonard Fratkin who was born in Brandon, Manitoba in 1917. He received his Medical degree in 1942 from the University of Alberta than joined the army and enrolled in the Canadian Officers Training Core, became a Medical Officer, assigned to surgical services. He arrived in England in May of 1944.

Max A. Jacobson

Oral history interview with Max A. Jacobson who was born in Winnipeg, 1928. Graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1950 in General Science with focuses in geology and chemistry. Moved to Calgary in 1951, finding working in the Seismic field. He married Tannis Bass, of Winnipeg, their children were born in Calgary. Max's paternal in-laws came from Russia 1908-09, while the maternal side from the New England region. Max helped to found the Burquest Jewish Association.

Ken Levitt

Oral history interview with Ken Levitt, who was born in Edmonton, 1937. Ken studied Sociology and Psychology and the University of British Columbia, ultimately leading to a career in Social Work. Worked at Jewish Family Service Agency, Catholic Family & Children’s Services, Vancouver Boys Club, Child Welfare, Louis Brier Home and the Jewish Community Centre Day Camp where he met Leah Esther. Within the community Ken was chairman Camp Miriam camp committee, active in old Fund & Council, chairman of Canadian Jewish Congress Security Committee, on B’nai B’rith Non-Profit Housing Committee, member of Poverty Steering Coalition of Jewish Community and past president of the B.C. Association of Social Workers.

Ronnie Tessler

Oral interview with Ronnie Tessler. Interviewed by Gene Gerber. Tessler was born in 1944 in Saskatchewan. She speaks about growing up in Winnipeg, her family, her photography, and her contributions to the Jewish community through her work with Louis Brier, Soviet Jewry Advocacy and Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre.

Sylvia Gurstein

Oral history interview with Sylvia Gurstein who was born in Winnipeg in 1923, who spent her life as a social worker. Sylvia was instrumental in creating L’Chaim Day Care program and is a member of the National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah, the Jewish Community Centre and the Population Health Advisory for Seniors for the Vancouver-Richmond Health Board.
