Bessie Diamond

Oral history interview with Bessie Diamond who was born in London, England in 1899 but her family emigrated in 1905 to Canada. Bessie worked throughout the Jewish Community in Vancouver such as setting up the Well-Baby Clinic and during the Second World War worked with refugees. Bessie built the Joseph J. and Bessie Diamond Hospital in Israel to her late husband (1964).

Betty Nitkin

Oral history interview with Betty Nitkin, who was born in Montreal, 1941. He parents studied and met at the University of Lwow. Working in between Montreal and England during the 1960's but due to a combination of Montreal's winters and the political situation in Quebec convinced the family to move to Vancouver in 1968. Mrs. Nitkin was involved in the National Council of Jewish Woman for many years chairing the Committee for Soviet Jewry during the 1970's. Mrs. Nitkin volunteered the Vancouver Jewish Centre helping settle Bosnian refugee families during the 1990's.

Bill Levine

Interview with Bill Levine. Interviewed by Debby Freiman for The Scribe, 2018. Bill talks about his family's history, his childhood and education in Vancouver, and his career. He also talks about his late brother John Levine (d. April 17, 2012) who had owned and operated John's Pizzarama. Bill discusses his involvement in the community through organizations such as Jewish Committee Foundation and UBC Board of Governors among many others.

Oral history interview with Blossom Wine who was born in Saskatchewan. Involved in Hadassah and active in active in B’nai Brith. After her husband passed away she became a travel agent and saw the development of Israel over many continuous years.

[B'nai B'rith blood bank]

Photograph attached to scrapbook. It depicts three unknown B'nai B'rith members helping to unload a Canadian Red Cross blood transfusion service truck. B'nai B'rith Lion's Gate Lodge organized a blood bank clinic at Beth Israel synagogue in May 1958. Corresponding photos of this event can be found in other scrapbooks.
