Letter from Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, dated May 24, 1917. Sent from "An hospital 'somewhere in France'" to Rachel Seidelman of Vancouver. Private Seidelman mentions the English papers saying that conscription is going to be adopted in Canada. He also shares his disapproval of the idea of his younger brother, Harry, trying to enlist for the war, especially lying about his age to do so.

Private Seidelman reports that he is a hospital recovering from shrapnel wounds to his right leg. He also mentions the murder of Chief of Police, McLennan, presumably of Vancouver.

Private Seidelman writes that he thinks he will be going to London next week. Elsewhere in the letter, Private Seidelman briefly mentions his concern over letters possibly getting "torpedoed on the Atlantic". Letter references another letter talking about a submarine story, which is not contained in the collection.

Letter from Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, dated November 29, 1916. Sent from Seaford, Sussex, England to Rachel Seidelman of Vancouver. Letter describes train journey across Eastern Canada. Private Seidelman also writes that it is likely his 196th Western Universities Battalion will disband soon. In another part of the letter, Private Seidelman mentions that he did not end up going to London as suggested in his last letter. Additionally, he gives a description of the town of Seaford and recalls seeing the estate of the Duke of Devonshire, the present Governor-General of Canada.

Letter from Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, dated October 10, 1917. Sent from "Somewhere in France" to Rachel Seidelman of Vancouver. Private Seidelman writes that he is getting ready to go on a march to another town. He also writes that the day before, he rode a "motor-bus" to go watch an artillery exhibition "somewhere in France", and described the day as his most enjoyable one since he came to France.

Letter - October 17, 1916

Letter from Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, dated October 17, 1916. Sent from Camp Hughes, Manitoba to Rachel Seidelman of Vancouver. In the letter, Private Seidelman informs Rachel that after the plan to leave Camp Hughes on October 20 was cancelled, he says he thinks he will be leaving next week for Nova Scotia, after which he believes he will be headed for England. Also, Private Seidelman tells Rachel that she does not have to write Sewall after Camp Hughes when addressing letters to him, as his location is no longer called Sewall, but just Camp Hughes.

Letter from Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, dated October 2, 1916. Sent from Camp Hughes, Manitoba to Rachel Seidelman of Vancouver. Private Seidelman asks Rachel questions about her university life. He tells Rachel that he engraved his name on many desks in U.B.C. and that she can find his name in other places as well. In the letter, Private Seidelman also indicates his camp mailing address as the following: D Company, 196th. Western Universities Batt. Camp Hughes, Man. In another part of the letter, Private Seidelman mentions that he actually went to Brandon, Manitoba and not Winnipeg for the Jewish holidays, and while in Brandon he stayed with a Jewish family by the name of Kisner. Additionally, Private Seidelman writes that he will be going to Brandon again this coming Thursday till Saturday.

Letter from Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, dated October 23, 1916. Sent from Camp Hughes, Manitoba to Rachel Seidelman of Vancouver. Private Seidelman writes that he will be leaving Camp Hughes in the afternoon on Thursday, October 26.
