Michael Ratner

Oral history interview with Michael Ratner, who was born in England, 1912. His father was born in Minsk, Russia; mother was born near Leningrad. Michael studied and worked as a Pharmacist in Vancouver until the 1970's. Michael was involved in the West Coast Historical Medical Society.

Nancy Appleton

Oral history interview with Nancy Appleton who was born in Winnipeg in 1914 and her father was involved in the Schara Tzedeck synagogue and Nancy volunteered for 51 years for the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic. Nancy was also the president for a time for the Liberal Ladies Auxillary and Schara Tzedeck's Women’s Auxiliary.

Rachel Morris and Harry Seidelman

Oral history interview with the Seidelman family who emigrated to Canada from Russia. Rachel Morris (nee Seidelman) and her brother Harry Seidelman describe being relatively isolated from the Jewish community as young people but they met more Jewish people in high school and became increasingly involved in community activities. Rachel's husband William Morris trained as doctor and had a private practice for a time. Rachel was involved with the Council of Jewish Women, served on the Vancouver Jewish Community Chest board. The CJW worked with the Red Cross during the Second World War.

Reva Checov

Oral history interview with Reva Checov who was born in a small village in Russia in 1897. Later in life when she emigrated to Canada she went to McGill University and the University of British Columbia. Reva was involved in the Pioneer Women, National Council of Jewish Women, B'nai B'rith; Red Cross, Heart Foundation, Cancer Society ; Israeli Affairs and the Jewish National Fund among an assortment of other roles.

Sylvia ("Pixie") Steiner

Oral history interview with Sylvia "Pixie" (nee Minster) Steiner who was born in Vancouver, 1942. Her father owned United Upholstery Co. Pixie volunteers at the Bagel Club, as an ESL teacher and book club.
