Fay Riback

Oral history interview with Fay Riback. Fay Riback knows it takes volunteers to get things done in a community. From participating in activities at her children's schools, to commitments at Temple Sholom, to volunteering with Hadassah-WIZO, Fay Riback has spent 50 years in Vancouver giving back. For Fay, it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do something.

Fay was heavily involved with Hadassah-WIZO in Vancouver. She worked directly with the Hadassah bazaar and the Hadassah golf tournaments. She was also the Hadassah national vice-president. Today she is very involved with Temple Sholom and helps her husband (Bud Riback) run his monthly seniors group at Temple Sholom. Fay is an excellent baker!

Bud and Fay were very instrumental in organizing the support for the Vietnamese boat family who were sponsored by Temple Sholom.

Gertrude Zivot

Oral history interview with Gertrude Zivot who was born in Alberta. Gertrude discusses growing up and the importance of being a part of a Jewish community.

Adele Vernon

Oral History interview with Adele Vernon. Born in London, England. During the war her mother told her and her siblings “don’t let anyone know we’re Jewish” and leaving the Jewish faith for years. Talks about being sponsored to come to Canada by his father's aunt, arriving at Pier 41, arriving during the Calgary stampede. Went back to school as a mature student in 1973 for performing arts. Started the Shalom Dancers in 1978/79. Took Wednesday night classes with Rabbi Victor Reinstein and returned to the Jewish faith later in life.

Earl Lesk

Oral history interview with Earl Lesk, who was born 1945 in New Westminster. He took Sciences, Microbiology and later teaching at the University of British Columbia Earl, becoming a High School biology teacher for the city of Coquitlam. Growing up in New Westminster Earl belonged Young Judea and went to Camp Hatikvah.

Marjorie Groberman and Bea Goldberg

Oral history interview with Marjorie Groberman and Bea Goldberg, who were born in Edmonton, Alberta and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan respectively. Both have been involved in Vancouver's Hadassah Bazaar development. The Jewish community was enthusiastic in their support of the Bazaar which first was held at the Sea Forth Armories, eventually moving to the PNE fairgrounds. Marjorie has helped to develop a number of cities' Bazaar's across Canada.

Miriam Bromberg

Oral history interview with Miriam Bromberg. Miriam Bromberg was born in Vermilion, Alberta.

This interview was cut short due to Miriam's health. At the beginning of the interview, Miriam asked that any personal remarks of hers be left out of the interview.
