Photograph depicts Merle Cohen (left) and Alec Jackson (right) at a B'nai B'rith Lion's Gate Lodge installation ceremony. Written on verso: Merle Cohen - District #4 - 2nd Vice Pres. saying a few words on [Alec Jackson's] behalf before [Jackson's] outgoing speech.

[B'nai B'rith blood bank]

Photograph attached to scrapbook. It depicts three unknown men donating blood at a B'nai B'rith blood bank, while an attending nurse looks on. B'nai B'rith Lion's Gate Lodge organized a blood bank clinic at Beth Israel synagogue in May 1958. Corresponding photos of this event can be found in other scrapbooks.

Letter - September 23, 1916

Letter from Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, dated September 23, 1916. Sent from Camp Hughes, Manitoba to Rachel Seidelman of Vancouver. In the letter, Private Seidelman mentions that Mr. M.A. Macdonald was appointed Attorney-General of British Columbia. He also mentions that he will be leaving for England around October 6, to train there. In addition, Private Seidelman says a Manitoba officer of his battalion, Lieutenant Tobias, who is also Jewish, is inviting him to come along on September 27 to spend the Jewish New Year at Lieutenant Tobias' residence in Winnipeg.

Postcard from Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, dated April 18, 1917. (Assumed sent from France) to Rachel Seidelman of Vancouver. There are sentences already printed on the back of the postcard and some of these sentences have been crossed out. It looks as if this type of postcard was created by the military for soldiers to quickly communicate their current situation to loved ones when there was not a lot of time to write letters of their own.
