Alfred Evans on Harry Evans

Oral history interview with Alfred Evans on Harry Evans, the latter of which who was born in 1878. Harry is one the the founding members of the Schara Tzedeck Synagogue in Vancouver.

Morris Saltzman

Oral history interview with Morris Saltzman who was born in Winnipeg, 1918. Morris's father brought the family to Vancouver because he was became a successful merchant, eventually owning two grocery stores; 1st in wholesale potato business; second on corner of Nelson and Bute St. Morris was involved in and or speaks of B'nai B'rith, Jewish Community Fund and Council, Zionist Organization, Community Fund and Council, Vancouver Lodge and St. John's Shaughnessy Men's Club.

Elaine Charkow

Oral History interview with Elaine Charkow. Elaine was born in Russia. Her family emigrated when she was 8. They first stopped in Winnipeg where her father worked in the grain business. They moved to Vancouver in 1926. During the 1930's Her mother took in 2 refugees from China. Her father was one of the founders of the Vancouver Free Loan Association. Elaine talks about the importance of the Jewish Community Center on 11th and Oak. Elaine instrumental in finding housing for Polish immigrants. She worked with B’nai B’rith Girls, United Jewish Appeal, and Hadassah.

Sally Rogow

Oral history interview with Sally Rogow, who was born in New York, 1930. Sally's grandparents were born somewhere in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Sally's uncle was the first Jewish man to be a Lieutenant Colonel in the Canadian Army, while her mother helped organized women during the Second World War. Sally worked as a teacher, teaching blind and handicap children, eventually advocating for those with Special Needs.
